Subject: [wxPython] sizer over sizer is not good
Reply-To: wxpython-users@lists.wxwindows.org

hi,

This section is cut out of the onlinedocs for class wxWindow:
______

wxWindow::SetSizer

void SetSizer(wxSizer* sizer)

Sets the window to have the given layout sizer. The window will then own
the object, and will take care of its deletion. If an existing layout
constraints object is already owned by the window, it will be deleted.

_____
Hm, sounds simple to me. But if i try to to that - the solution looks like
if it isn't so easy... if i call window.SetSizer() twice in a app, wx will
place all new controls in the upper left corner of the parent.
ok. i don't wanna exactly do this in that way. i choose the slow way. i
wanna delete all the items of the parent (a wxPanel) by myself and set a
new sizer with controls on it.
I can't delete the panel because of some circumstances.... if i can delete
the panel, i think there would be no problem with a new panel. But the
panel is linked with a couple of other objects... i currently use this code:

        wxBeginBusyCursor()

#self.temppanel is a list of panels
        self.temppanel[sel].DestroyChildren()

        # self.filliste is a list of functions which will create a sizer
with some
        # controls on it and return the rootsizer. The args which the
function needs is
        # the panel and true(resize panel?)
        self.filliste[sel](self.temppanel[sel],true)

        self.temppanel[sel].SetAutoLayout(true)

        self.mysizer.SetMinSize(self.mysizer.CalcMin())

        self.parent.Layout()

        frametools.form1_adjustscrollbars()

        wxEndBusyCursor()

The Program do this once, twice, but sometimes it crashs hardly....
why? is there another way to delete all children of a panel?? hmm
why the behaviour describe in the docs doesn't appear?

i hope i gave all infos you need to solve this problem. i try myself
again, but i tried
a variety of ways and nothing useful happens...

thx, reen

The primary gotchas I found were
because asyncore expects that it is the primary thread, but in a

wxPython

environmnt, it probably isn't.

Although I haven't tried this (yet), there probably is a way to work
around this by delegating asyncore's polling to a timer event handler.
Asyncore polls in an infinite loop, so you'd need to copy a bit of code
*without* that infinite loop, but that shouldn't be too hard. The
responsiveness of your app might suffer a bit, but you'll avoid the
pitfalls of multithreaded GUI programming.

hi,

i posted these problem last month, but i do it

if a wxScrolledWindow doesn't own a scrollbar
it has no abilitiy to scroll. How can i enable

Hi all,

This is my first post to this list. I have just started using wxpython
(yesterday) and I really like it. Now in under 2 weeks I need to make a
demo editor for Fortran code. I have noticed lexers for various
languages but no Fortran.

Anyone knows how to tackle this or if it's been done already ....?

Thanks a lot.

PS: All I need mostly is syntax highlighting. Forget about folding for
now!

Reply-To: wxpython-users@lists.wxwindows.org

I haven't posted to the list before about the PythonCard project, so the
email below contains info about the latest release as well as the primary
URLs for the project. PythonCard uses wxPython as part of its framework. We
could use more developers on the project, so please let me know if you're
interested. You can quickly crank out GUI apps with PythonCard that hide
most of the complexity of wxPython and the capabilities are growing each
day. Please see the PythonCard mailing list archive for docs until we get
more web pages put together.

Thanks for your time!

PythonCard is a software construction kit (in the spirit of Apple's
HyperCard) written in Python.

Prototype release 0.2.1 contains eight sample applications to show off the
features of the latest PythonCard prototype.

PythonCard relies on wxPython, so it will support the Macintosh once
wxPython has been ported to the Mac.

Latest release files:

PythonCard home page
http://pythoncard.sourceforge.net/

SoureForge summary page

Mailing list

(There is an archive at ASPN as well, but it is incomplete. The list is
publicly readable, but you have to subscribe to post.)

PythonCard requires Python 2.1 or later and wxPython 2.3.1.

---

The PythonCard prototype release 0.2.1 is now available. This release is
mostly to address bugs fixed since release 0.2

You can download it directly:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/pythoncard/proto-0.2.1.zip

You can also get it by visiting the SourceForge project summary page for
PythonCard at:

Changes since 0.2 (this list isn't complete, but covers the main issues)
Added Edit menu with Cut, Copy, Paste, etc. to searchexplorer sample
Added replaceSelection method to TextField
Fixed setSize, setPosition
Added findFocus to Background
Fixed numerous functions that weren't returning values
Added classes ComponentSpec and AttributeSpec, enhanced parsing of spec.py
Added most of the remaining methods for TextField and List
Added minimal sample to use as a template
class_diagram_1.pdf removed from release to save space

I'm getting an error when I try to use wxArrayString. Does this mean that
wxArrayString is not supported in wxPython? If so, does this mean that
wxFileDialog::GetFilenames is unavailable for me to use since it uses
wxArrayString as a parameter?

Hi there

I have been trying to get a wxText control to right justify the displayed
text, i.e. to hold numbers, but have been unable to get any success.

Has anyone got any clues. I also posted this on the Boa list, and it seems
wxText does not support this property. If so, could I make this a request?

   Hi Hassan,

for Fortran code. I have noticed lexers for various

There is no Fortran lexer available AFAIK. wxSTC inherits much of its
functionality from Scintilla http://www.scintilla.org

If you are only interested in modern free-form Fortran then you may be
able to reuse the VB lexer almost completely by just changing the keyword
list. Try this out with SciTE and see how far you get.

The best way to produce a new lexer is to take one of the current lexers
and modify the C++ code to handle the new language. Then you link your new
lexer into wxSTC. For Fortran, the Visual Basic lexer
scintilla/src/LexVB.cxx would be a good starting point.
   http://www.scintilla.org/Lexer.txt

It is possible to write a lexer that is located within client code by
responding to EVT_STC_STYLENEEDED and this makes it possible to write the
lexer in Python but there is more example code available for the normal way.
This also allows many other applications to use the lexer. Open Source rulez

Hi,

I've made a couple of changes to the wxPython.lib.imagebrowser source (fixed
a bug that triggers an ASSERT when there's no files in the default dir, and
modified it to use fnmatch rather than regex). I didn't see Lorne White's
email in the source, so where do I send my changes?

If you call wxFileDialog::GetFilenames with no parameters, it returns
a native python list of strings.

The wx-dev would be the proper place to bring it up. There was talk a long
time ago of doing this and other new flags and things for wxTextCtrl but it
was decided to hold off until 2
