Why I will stop using wxPython

Hi all,

My name will slowly desappear from this list. This week, I decided to stop using the wxPython toolkit for developing
new applications.

I think you made this decission a bit early, how can you decide to stop using a toolkit for which you have not found a replacement!

So far, I had fun to write applications, but now I am really
stuck. The main and more or less solely reason is due to the
wxGrid component that simply does not understand my keyboard
(and certainly all non us-keyboards).

Others have asked, can you fill us in with a bit more detail. Currently I use a wxGrid only in one place and it does not cause me any problem.

I follow this list daily and CAN NOT recall you having posted about this in the recent past (6 to 9 month)?! Also I read just about every post of yours as I have found good hints/ideas!

Jean-Michel, give it another go, explain the problem(s) ones more here on this list, I think everyone can only gain

When I discovered wxPython (2.0), I thought this wxGrid bug
would be a temporary bug, but now, two-three years later (!)
and after n versions, this issue is still not fixed and I wonder if it will be one day.

I understand that a widget may suffer from bugs like a
background color or a transparency issue. In these cases, it
is possible to work around, but having a "text widget" where
I can not enter text is just unacceptable.

I will conclude with two remarks.

1) All applications using a wxGrid I have downloaded are not
properly working. These are mainly database front ends, developed in US by wxPython users with an US-keyboard. (The
kind of application I wish to develop now).

2) As I'm sensitive to this problem, I looked at this list
with a different eye. I have noticed, all people complaining
about this issue just desappeared from the list. Does it mean,
they do not use wxPython anymore? I do not know. I think they probably have.

It is still not clear, what I will use now. Leaving wxPython,
probably means abandoning Python.

Sorry for my English.
Regards.
