TWIMC,

I was trying to locate the discussion late last year, re: speed of
loading and the speed difference between the idioms

from wxPython.wx import *
  and
import wx

but I couldn't locate it; the search engine just refused to
handle my query.

So then I said to my self, "well, let's just do a simpler search;
I'll look for my own (last) name and see where that gets me..."
Doing this for just the wxPython-users list (ie. advanced search)
yields one (1) result, which is absurd.
So I did a "simple" search on the same thing, and got 369 hits,
but assuming they're sorted in time order, as they appear to be,
the most recent one found is dated Mon, 16 Jun 2003, 19:00:27 CEST,
which is also incorrect.)

I tried ASPN, but it's even worse; search there doesn't appear
to do anything any more, and you can only page through threads
20 at a time.

So all of this leads me to wonder: What archive search works?

I'm not sure what's going on with ASPN, however the search capability seems to come and go. We could probably leverage Google if Robin wants to add a mailing list search box the www.wxpython.org site. The relevant hidden fields would be something like:

site:aspn.activestate.com
inurl:ASPN/Mail/Browse/Threaded/wxPython-users

There is some noise below, but I copied this directly from the browser after doing a test search for "Sadkin" by typing the following into the Google search box:

Sadkin site:aspn.activestate.com inurl:ASPN/Mail/Browse/Threaded/wxPython-users

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Sadkin+site%3Aaspn.activestate.com+inurl%3AASPN%2FMail%2FBrowse%2FThreaded%2FwxPython-users

ASPN seems to lose some messages to the list, but for a single archive it probably goes back further than anything else we have available.

The mail lists and archive searching is a real sore spot for the coreteam and SunSite.dk. As you've seen, after all this time it still doesn't work well.

I can usually find what I'm looking for using google with a "site:lists.wxwidgets.org" added to the search term.

Gmane works too, although a bit slow.
