I started using InsertImageStringItem instead of just InsertStringItem. I set the image id to -1 and noticed the same thing you did: while the up/down arrow image is gone, there is a gap and the column data is not left justified. In the future, I would like to have a better solution, but this will do for now.

Sorry, omitted to mention that I had tried that. It does stop the image
being displayed, but it leaves a gap where the image would be. I need the
column to be left justified.regards,
