There are debian packages of the newest 2.6 releases on
deb http://www.vollstreckernet.de/debian/ stable wx
deb http://www.vollstreckernet.de/debian/ testing wx
Just add the appropriate line to your sources.list and install via apt-get as
usual. I have been using that source now for quite some time on various
Debian stable/testing/unstable machines and it appears reliable and
up-to-date
