Creating GUI Applications with wxPython Book Released

Hi,

I just wanted to let my fellow wxPython users know that my newest book, “Creating GUI Applications with wxPython”, has now been released.

If you would like to check out a free sample of the book, you can get one on Leanpub - https://leanpub.com/creatingapplicationswithwxpython/c/wxusers

That link will also give you a $10 discount off the book should you decide to purchase it.

I am also doing a $10 off sale for that book and all my other self-published books on Gumroad. You can use the following coupon code on any of my books there: tenoff

The link for my books is this one: https://gumroad.com/driscollis

Let me know if you have any questions and let’s keep creating fun new applications in Python!

Indeed, it looks to be very well done and teaches a wide range of functionality.

Thanks for the endorsement, Robin. That means a lot to me.

I actually put out an update today for the eBook versions that fixes some weird syntax highlighting issues that were happening (among other things). As usual with my books, they will receive updates for several years after publication.

Mike,

is the update in Leanpub available? I dont get any message from them yet…

Oh, I probably forgot to hit the little checkbox. Yes, the update it on Leanpub. I’ll get Gumroad updated within the our. Amazon will be later as they go through a review period and I don’t like updating it there too often as they are kind of picky about that sort of thing.

Hi Mike,
Congratulations on your new book!
If perchance you plan to translate the book, please know I'm here to
help with Russian and Ukrainian, if needed. I've been working in
IT localization since 2012, so we can talk this more thoroughly if and when needed.
Thanks!

Thanks for creating the book! I enjoy following along, it gave me a good understanding of wxPython before starting to learn more about the exact details.

Thanks for checking it out. wxPython is an awesome GUI toolkit and a lot of fun to use.

Hello Mike,

after spending too much time evaluating (aka speculating) which language to use for the desktop app mostly looking at statically-typed languages, I’ve finally decided to do it in Python and seeing your wxPython book pushed the scale on the right side.

In general, I prefer physical books over e-ones, but in case you get more by the sale of epub, I’ll change my mind in this case?

Sincerely,
Saša

I think I would make slightly more if you bought on Gumroad, but I am more than happy to have you purchase a paperback. Besides, if you buy the paperback on Amazon, it should give you a free Kindle version too.

Well, that does not count - I own (buy) only readers with epub support, no Kindle here.

Well if you buy a paperback, I can simply gift you an eBook. That’s not a problem. I prefer that my readers get what they want.

Hi Mike,
Forgive me, but I wasn’t sure how else to reach you. In Chapter 4, something seems to have crept in, causing an error for the database viewer. Something to do with engine not having a table_names() method?

Sorry for missing this. I believe someone reported this issue recently and it was a SQLAlchemy update. I think you just needed to roll back to the previous version.

By the way, I include a way to contact me in the introduction of all my books.

It’s a book, let’s see how he is progressing our learning. Thanks for taking the time Mike.
