Are there MBox archives available of the list traffic?

The subject says all. I like to keep local mbox archives of developer lists so I can search them for answers. The online search tools tend to leave a lot to be desired. Plus I can tag messages in my reader and refer back to my tags later.

I've had the same problem back in January when I joined the lists

If you want I can send you the archive for the wxpython-dev list from January till today.
wxpython-users is another thing
from January till now there are some 6540 messages and my mailer chokes when I'm trying to export it.
I was able to extract the last month messages (almost 900 messages) so if you want I can send you that.

anyway... I think is better to just ask your questions, some of the solutions you could have found in the archive might no even be working or might no be recommended now since 2.5 has become the main branch of wxpython.

I appreciate the offer. I'm hoping one of the elders on this list has a (fairly) complete snapshot available.

Maybe I'm a minority but I'm a firm believer in RTFM, including lists such as these. I haven't started doing much yet other than examples from the wiki. I subscribed early to get a feel for the library and types of problems people are encountering. In the week that I've been here, I've noticed that Robin Dunn has much more patience than I could ever have. His helpfulness goes above and beyond nearly any other dev list I've been on.

I probably won't get heavy into GUI work with wxWidgets until later this year or early next year. I'm guessing that this new 2.5.3.x series will be available by then. I noticed that I joined in the middle of some heavy debates on API stability. I got the impression that the API for 2.5.3 should be stable going forward.

Hear, hear! Hurrah for Robin!

David

I've got the same impression about Robin (I went a little bit crazier than you;) )

in my oppinion Robin understood what it means to be a leader and I think this is why wxpython is where it is today.

The maillist software used is ezmlm and its archive format is not mbox, but rather one file per message in directories of 100 messages each. I do periodically fetch all the new files with rsync and have been intending to write a little script to convert to an mbox format file but havn't done it yet. If somebody wants to help with that let me know.

Thanks!

Yep, at least through 2.6.x. Almost everything checked in over the past few weeks have been bug fixes or cleanup types of things so that has been a real good sign. Another good sign is that I've only had to make one addition so far to the MigrationGuide since 2.5.2.8. There still could be some API changes before 2.6, but I don't think there will be anything major.

I don't know about general availability, but I could zip up
mine and send them to you. I have (I think complete)
Eudora mbox files for wxPython-Users back to 2002-11-10.
Probably about 11MB zipped.

Send me a sampling of the files and I'll work on a Python script for it.

That's about as far back as I think I will need. I'd love a copy if I can get it.
