The docking hints do not work on Mac. This patch fixes them for the most part, it makes them visible again and the colors work. The Venetian Blind style is still broken by it though because of disabling the FRAME_SHAPED style. I kind of ran out of time for now to work on it but when looking at the original cpp code there appears to be quite a bit of divergence here that may be causing the hints to not work correctly.

Thank you for the patch. I am going to try it also on Windows and then
apply it to SVN. The divergence between AUI and wxAUI is mainly due to
a refactor that has been carried on by the guy who has implemented all
the new features. I would love to fix it but the usual problem
remains: no Mac here
