As much as I appreciate any work for TeX: Why another editor for
(La)TeX?
Aren't there just enough (or too many) out there?
SciTE uses the same Scintilla widget like wxPython and has already a
good LaTeX mode and even ConTeXt support.
the editor is not for general use but for very specific in-house needs
they want an editor that is fully scriptable so that we could automate
several repetitive tasks
they were not able to find one that fit their needs so they asked if
we could make them one
will look into SciTE ASAP
thanks for your time
I don't know that it is any better than the ActiveGrid one, but I'd check out
SPE. I now Stani would like it to turn inot a general purpose editor, rather
than primarily for Python, so this might be a step in that direction.
There are also other editors written in Python, I'm sure some googling will
fiind them. maybe on e of them is smaller and simpler, and thus easier to
customize for you.
PyPE, for instance. (http://pype.sourceforge.net/)

Hi Justin,
Just in case you would be interested in SPE, here are some usefull notes.
These are things which are planned:
-
reworking the user interface: this will be boosted thanks to Andrea’s
NotebookCtrl, but it goes further than that. SPE will deal with mdi and
sdi, (un)dockable/hidable toolbars, drag&drop controls in new
frames,… Basically the moto is ‘the screen is yours’, so rather than
enforcing a certain layout myself, the user will be able to manipulate
the interface of SPE as he likes… and show off the real power of
wxPython, which only a few applications do till now.
-
splitting SPE in core (light weight, ultra fast, load cpu and memory
load)+plugins (which can have full acces to anything on the interface),
following the firefox model (including webpage)
-
open SPE for other formats than Python (and push the UML further)
Besides that SPE is committed to run stable on Windows and Mac. If
Linux users offer me a computer with their preferred distro, I will
support that distro as well.
Of course a lot of SPE users have all kind of requests, but I have to
prioritize myself. If you want to speed up features in SPE, there are
two options: or you contract me or you develop and contribute code with
my full support.
If anyone on this list feels appealed to help SPE’s development, please contact me and subscribe to the SPE’s developper list:
https://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/python-spe-dev
At the moment these things are being worked on (without promosing when they will be finished):
Anyone who donates gets a pdf, ad-free manual:

OK, enough spamming, sorry for that,
Stani
