Just a ping that wxSTC is still my top issue for Mac OS X, so if faster
drawing and better measuring code for the text and cursor can be added so
that wxSTC is usable that would be a big win for the next preview.
I think the previews are getting close to the point that a more general
audience can start looking at them. However, on the Mac that audience
expands since 2.5 is fixing so much that was broken with 2.4 on the Mac, so
I expect quicker adoption there. Another thing I've noticed is that some
people on the Mac are giving wxPython a try, but I think they try PyShell
and get turned off by the sluggish behavior.
Another issue hampering adoption might be that you have to use pythonw to
run wxPython scripts and real standalones need to be made with
bundlebuilder. For someone that primarily runs scripts from the command-line
that probably isn't a big deal. But to expand the user base for wxPython on
the Mac the installation and correct setup of PythonLauncher is probably a
critical part of the wxPython install process and sadly there are different
steps for Jaguar and Panther; PythonLauncher is almost a dependency. I don't
know if this just needs a more emphasis in the installer dialog for wxPython
and/or a step-by-step install guide or something else, I'm just thinking out
loud.
