wxStaticBitmap in 256 colours

I feel your pain. I have something of the same problem, though not as
pressing as yours since our source base and source control is on a Win 2000
server that we can access via Terminal Services. But since we aren't
deploying the app via TS, I can basically avoid the problem at this point.
One of the first things I noticed when running my Python/wxPython app on
the server via TS was that my nice interface looked like crap.

After investigating various alternatives (including Citrix which is in
general too expensive even for GSK to use without some genuine
justification) it became apparent that a big part of the problem is that
(despite some appearances to the contrary) Windows was never really
conceived as a multi-user system and there appears to be quite a ripple
effect to this even at this point in time.

However, I did learn that if you upgrade your server to Win 2003, then the
TS server will support all the colors you want. Alas, unless you also
upgrade your TS clients to XP (or so I am told), you won't get the benefit
of this. We are not in a position to do this (these big pharma companies
are hideously slow in moving forward) and are still running NT (ugh!). But
if you *could* upgrade the server and your clients, the color problem you
are encountering would apparently go away. (Also, the licensing for TS on
XP is apparently somewhat saner than on previous systems.) Pretty silly
situation, eh?
