Subject: Re: [wxPython] String Formating
Date: Wed, 18 Jul 2001 11:54:56 -0400I did print out the Python library reference, but it's more like a
dictionary for me, I never had chance to look through it - I alwaysfall
asleep before I take it out from under my pillow.
I agree that the documentation is nothing like as user friendly as the
language itself. Learning how to navigate the Python documentation
and find essential small details is possibly a harder task than simply
learning the language.I'm joining someone else's previous recommendation -- I, too, really,
really, really recommend David Beazley's _Python Essential Reference_.
YOU CAN FIND STUFF IN THIS BOOK. You can go to the index, and look up
"%" and see "operator, modulo, string formatting", and three page
references, one for each of the above items.Look up "string formatting", and you find two page references, both
correct and useful.Look up "string-formatting operator (%)" and AGAIN you get a page
reference. Whoops, there should be two, but the text points you to
the other location. In fact, there's a whole half-page in the index with the root
"string", with enough surrounding verbiage to figure out whether it's
useful for your purposes or not. It's an awesome index, and whoever put it together did a superlative
job. Of course, the content is also there in the book -- and it's
clear, well written, and well organized.Get it, it will make working with Python MUCH easier.
Python from some aspects is better than Java, but I am used to Java API
specification, especially its Package Hierarchies - this is only myopnion,
no arguments about it.
Much easier to navigate, I take it.
