Dear Robin,
Hi, and first off, thanks for all your hard work. I've used wxPython on Windows for a couple of years now (small applications for in-house use). I never fail to be impressed by what it can do, even though I'm just hacking about most of the time
Now, however, I'm about to start coding a fairly substantial application, which needs to work across platforms. I have Win2000 Pro, and for a number of reasons, I'd like my *nix development platform to be NetBSD.
So, this post is about wxPython on NetBSD.
I currently have wxPython 2.4.2.4 on Python 2p3.3. The OS is NetBSD 1.6.2 on an IBM ThinkPad with GENERIC-LAPTOP kernel. The window manager is Fluxbox.
My general impression is, that although pretty, this configuration is highly unstable. The demo crashes regularly, and not just with the threaded examples.
This is in contrast to everything else I've installed using the pkgsrc system. For example, dia and Mozilla Firebird are solid as a rock.
Are you aware of particular issues with NetBSD? To what extent are these likely to be resolved in future releases of wxWidgets and the new threading implementation of NetBSD 2? Are you in contact with the maintainer of the NetBSD wxPython port?
I would like to help improve stability on this platform. What are your thoughts on how I should do this? Would you like to receive bug reports yourself, or should I submit them to the NetBSD project?
Kind Regards,
Dave Haynes.
