wxpython bounties

I have several special wxPython widget wishes I would be happy to pay for if
somebody else does the work for me (in the range of a few hundred dollar per
job, estimating $200/day's work)

Is there a system in place how to do it? I am most worried re how to pay in
different currencies in different countries where often bank transfer fees
can be as high as 25% of the sum transferred.

Is it easy for developers to e.g. use PayPal?

Cheers,
Horst

speaking from own experience:
- the most available method seams to be WesternUnion transfer, rates are at about 10%
- If the developer comes from a country that is accepted by PayPal... that would be the easiest way.
- Direct bank transfer is the most cost efective,

If the widgets are to be open source, part of the official wxpython distribution maybe you can talk to Robin about setting up a bounties page on wxpython site/wiki that seams to be fashionable lately.

I would love to see cumulative bounties for interesting widgets... live various people saying "Ok, I'm willing to chip in xxx $ for that one"

One word of warning... when money are involved things can get stinky... for this to work nice standards for these widgets must be set! they should come properly documented and with a demo page, they should strictly follow the code guidelines set by Robin.

Peter.

Feel free to make a page on the wiki that lists the bounties, and link to it from the main page. Or it may make sense to just add your entries to the wxWidgets bounty page and link to that from our wiki.

Thanks. I will put up a bit more structured web page and put links to it on
the wikis.

For organising the bounties, others have suggested Wiki pages; I'd
like to suggest this service, explicitly set up for free software
bounties:

Thanks for that!

I also have ongoing need for developers available for small contract jobs on
short notice. Typical projects take from a day to a week to complete, with a
typical pay rate of about $200/day depending on skill level. Nothing to get
rich, but you can do it in your spare time at your own pace without a boss
breathing down your neck.

Most of such projects are too specialised to do them via a bounty system.

Required skills are multi-platform development (Linux, Macs and Windows) in
Python and wxPython, and sometimes Postgresql. All code I pay for will be
released under GPL without exception , but the original developer is free to
release under as many additional licenses (including commercial ones) if he
likes.

So if people are interested, they can just forward me their skills list and I
will send them private emails whenever jobs come up

This is a genuine offer, no scam, no commercial interest.
I will not forward your details to anybody else, I guarantee this personally
with my good name (google for me if you like)

Background: I belong to a group of medical doctors who are fed up with the
antics of medical software vendors, especially with vendor lock-in. So we
started writing our own. Things go slower than anticipated, and many of us
have special individual needs for their particular practice. We are happy to
pay a reasonable fee for work provided the source code can then be published
under GPL license.

Where would we forward this information to? Your address is listed as
"subscriptions@gnumed.net" will it reach you there?

Yes, it will. It s a low priority email address for list subscriptions, to
avoid exposure to spammers

I just want to take a minute to publicly thank you and your group of professionals for your willingness to motivate individuals by offering bounties, and then being generous enough to allow the code you paid for to be GPL'ed.

We are using predominantly GPL software because we benefit directly from it.
Software can only evolve if we are prepared to share knowledge and build upon
one another's successes.

I we were "closed source" in medicine, we probably would still sell snake oil
and operate with knife and fork.

The bounty money is peanuts compared to the benefit we derive from free
software
