wxPython App - Social Paste

First, let me thank you guys for your help. I’ve asked several questions in this group regarding the development of this wxPython app, and gotten answers to all of them. Not only is wxPython an awesome language to write client applications in (better, by far, than visual c++), but also the community rocks.

I’m posting to let you guys know of the impending release of my wxPython app, open source (probably under the GPL, the exact license is still up in the air).

The app is called Social Paste. It’s purpose is simple - it adds a few new shortcuts to your computer, (in the case of Windows, it adds ctrl+shift+c and ctrl+shift+v). These shortcuts supplement the regular copy/paste commands, and allow you to copy and paste between your own computers, or even to a friend’s computer. It transfers the data either through the Social Paste Cloud server, or via a Dropbox / FTP integration (if you prefer having more ‘control’ over your files). A ‘paste list’, as well as integration with Social Networks (Facebook, Twitter, Google Contacts) are maintained by the Social Paste Server (rather than the client wxPython application).

Here’s a short video of it in action.

The overall “pretty” factor isn’t fully done, but it is just a few weeks away from being ready for a beta release of the product (and the release of the open source code).

We’ve also started a kickstarter campaign as an effort to cover server costs for the first couple months while the app gets ‘rolling’. You can view it here:

Regardless of whether the kickstarter campaign succeeds, we’ll be releasing the app in less than a month open source. We’re hoping people get on board to help convert it to the Mac (since it’s wxPython, most of it is platform independent, save for a couple libraries), as well as making mobile apps they can sell in the app store. If the Kickstarter campaign does fail, we’ll probably shift to ‘require’ Dropbox or FTP integration to cut down on costs for the first few months.

If you have any input for this app, suggestions for improvement, concerns, questions, etc., let me know!
