your test - modal dialog of modal dialog without its initialization - is a bit complicated to me

I don’t think you are alone and in my second example with just one manager it works (without the initial call): it’s really useless but nice to get greetings from the core (somewhat of a general interest here I hope)
otherwise I find the dialog ok and never really grasped the original problem: focussing a window is done by the window manager and not an application

I agree. the problem with the modal dialog you showed could be a chance to make it more robust.
