Take a look at KitViewer at http://staffa.wi.mit.edu/people/kelley. This
is a fairly simplistic (though effective for browsing and debugging) GUI
for Metakit databases. The source is available from the site and it uses
wxPython. It should give you a decent example of how to start what you
want to do.
