The wxGTK version just calls the gdk_beep() function. Unfortunately there isn't anything in the gdk_beep docs about what it needs to have setup/configured to be able to actually make a sound...

Yes, the visual bell does get called but not the PC's - I'm giving up and
going for an mp3 library.
