I am having trouble installing wxPython on Windows XP,
and would appreciate any advice on overcoming this
issue. wxPython installation (using the self
installers) fails on my system for Python 2.3, 2.4,
and 2.4.1. When I try to install wxPython for Python
2.4, a command line window briefly opens and closes.
The window disappears too quickly for me to read any
error message. However, when I run the installer from
the command prompt I receive an error message
complaining of too little memory to run the program.
When I use the Windows run command to run the
installer I get the same result as when I double click
on the installer icon.
When I try to install wxPython for Python 2.3, the
program seems to install o.k. and it even creates a
directory structure and all files seem to install
correctly. However, none of the examples work. I also
get a quick open and close command prompt when I click
on the example icons. Similarly, I cannot load the
wxPython module from the Python command line, and I
receive an error message when I try to do so.
I have even uninstalled all of my different Python
versions, and (only) reinstalled the latest Python
version to see if there was some kind of weird version
conflict. However, wxPython still refuses to install.
I have searched the mailing list archives, and Googled
for the answer, but it seems that I am the only person
in the world with this problem.
I have successfully installed wxPython for Python
2.4.1 on Windows 2000 at work, Mac OS X on an iBook,
and Mandrake Linux 10 on a ThinkPad, so it does not
seem to be simply my installation goofiness.
Information about my system that might be relevant:
Current installed Python versions 2.4.1
wxPython installer used (for Python 2.4.1)-
wxPython2.5-win32-unicode-2.5.4.1-py24
Operating system Windows XP sp2
Computer Compaq Presario, 2.5 ghz, 1 gigabyte of
ram, 80 gigabyte hard drive
Any words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated.
