what is the default font style instead of below code?

if wx.Platform == '__WXMSW__':
    faces = { 'times': 'Times New Roman',
              'mono' : 'Courier New',
              'helv' : 'Arial',
              'other': 'Comic Sans MS',

              'size2': 8,
             }
else:
    faces = { 'times': 'Times',

Those are just used for the sample code and have nothing to do with any defaults. Look at how the faces dictionary is used later in the sample.

The default style number is STD_STYLE_DEFAULT and whatever you set for that style is what will be used for areas of the document that are not set to some other style number.
