I've just bumped into one of those areas where wxwidgets _doesn't_ hide or transcend platform differences.
There's quite a few, really. It really comes down to the fact that a core feature (like window transparency) simply can't be supported by wx if all the platforms don't support it.
So I'm curious -- could you do what you want with FloatCanvas? A little more description of what you want would help.
