I am currently looking for a second technical reviewer for a book I am working on called “Creating GUI Applications with wxPython”. If you are interested, you can send me an email and let me know why you think you’d be good at that sort of thing.
I am planning to release the book in May, so it will be fast paced.
I’d be real interested in your book when it’s published. I’ve been looking into wxpython but there is nothing current from what I can tell.
I would be happy to look it over but I wouldn’t consider myself a qualified python developer.

The existing books (see wxPython Bookshelf | wxPython for some) are still mostly relevant, especially for those who are just getting started as the basic simple stuff has remained compatible ever since the transition to the “wx” namespace (vs. the ancient “wxPython” namespace.) There’s also lots of tutorials and such online that can be used to learn the basics, including Mike’s blog among others. The wxPython demo is also a good way to explore and learn.
Mike’s new book appears to be targeted more at folks who already know the basics, so there’s really no reason to not jump in now and get started with one of the older books or online tutorials while waiting for Mike’s new book.

I will point out that even some of my tutorials are a bit out of date. I keep stumbling across minor issues where things are deprecated or replaced in Phoenix. So if anyone here notices something like that on my blog, feel free to let me know and I will get that tutorial updated.
Zetcode has a Phoenix version of their tutorial, I think. So that’s also a good place to start.
I agree
with Mel. Robin, once you get pass just the very simple stuff
you will run into issues if you are running wxPython4.x and
Python 3. Don’t get me wrong the concepts in general are still
relevant but code will not work in many of the examples.

The problem with
Zetcode is where the hosting company is located - Slovakia. So
many of the firewalls block Eastern Europe countries. And it is
hard to convince Admin’s to open them up. It was a great site
until was it blocked. So now I can’t access it!

Has a lot of good stuff in it, but some of it is VERY old – I would welcome issues for things that no longer work under py3 / wxPy4 – ideally PRS with fixes, but simply letting me know what’s not working would be great.
I’m always intending to go back and test and clean it all up, but never find the roundtoits.

I think this is a great idea. I don’t know if the wiki can tell you if a page is being edited by someone else though. If it can’t, we would need to have some kind of chat going on among the participants.
Just browsing some old emails I missed, before bed. If your GUI/Python book is still being reviewed, I’d
be happy to help preview it.
I do enjoy your writing, and would be happy to help eliminate some typos that inevitably creep in.
Cheers,

If you keep reading up the mails you’ll find Mike released this book a couple of weeks ago. There’s a message with a code/link to purchase at a discounted price which I shall be using this weekend.
