after some suggestions from Stani, I have enhanced a lttle bit more
NotebookCtrl. Stani suggested me to implement better the contour around the
tabs, so I ended up using the colour from Windows to draw a rounded
rectangle around tabs to enhance that contour. I ended up with something
that looks more "defined" but less 3D look than before. I attach 2
screenshots on the old and the new looks, does anyone have some
recommendations on which one I should choose? (just a style question)
Thank you a lot.
Andrea.

I like the new one better BUT that's according to my tastes... other people might prefer the old one.

First of all, nice to see countour lines implemented! Here is my reaction…
I requested the countour line more for the gradient style tabs, not for
flat colour tabs. For flat colour tabs I would prefer the old as that
feels more native (under Windows at least ;-).
For the gradient style countour lines are more necessary. The reason I was missing countour for gradients was because the border
between the currently selected one and the tab on the left was a little
bit unclear. Therefore if you would make screenshots of gradient tabs, I think it is better to show not the first tab (blue) as
the selected one, but rather another, like red, ScrolledWindow, green …

I personally find the old tabs better - with the extra lines around all the
tabs, the visual impact of the highlighting of the chosen tab is reduced. IE
I find ti visually cluttered.

I like the new one best, and I also like Peter's suggestion of making it configurable. But perhaps instead of a flag you could make it a plug-in architecture where you specify a funciton or class that handles the drawing style for you. It could default to one or the other of these, and the programmer also has the option of creating their own tab-drawing class for super-customized looks.

Well personally I like the new style more, it's more fashionable. But I
also think such controls should have a native look. So maybe both styles
should be available.
In the old style there is a dark line of 2 pixels on the right side of
each tab. In the new style there is something similar, but not at the
selected tab. So the selected tab isn't clearly highlighted.
