On wxPython's website the news item about 2.8.11.0 has a date of 14-
May-2010. Typo?

No. IIRC, even though the binaries didn't get uploaded to SF until about 10 days later, it was the version of the code from the about the 14th that was used to make the build, and the binaries were actually built shortly after that day.
