Separate download of wx package?

I just wondered -- is the wx package (that is, the new namespace stuff
in 2.4.1) written so that it may be used with older wxPython versions?
I would like to use it with the Windows binary and with the default
install of wxPython in Gentoo linux, but they are both 2.4.0... I just
thought I'd hear if it's worth the effort before I try -- or if I
should rather try to get things to compile from CVS...

Isn't 2.4.0.7 the latest release?

FWIW, I have been using the wx package (revision 1.5 2003/03/07)
with the wxPython 2.4.0.1 Windows binary (for Python 2.2) with no
problems. Is there a later version of the wx package?

I'm sure it is -- I guess what I'm referring to is in CVS (although I
haven't used it). Here is some more info:

I assume you mean the wxPython.wx package, which is another thing
completely. Or am I mistaken?

Patrick's wx package is a wrapper that removes those (IMO) pesky wx
prefixes from the wxPython names, giving you names like wx.App and
wx.Button. Very nice, IMO -- I just wich I could use it
