PyShell + Umlauts

Thank you for your reply and for your tests.

If I understand correctly your mails, psi - aka psi 63-
is working fine on XP with Python 2.4 and wxPython 2.5.4.x

Your feedback was really welcome. I developed and maintained
psi on my windows 98 platform, using an ansi wxPython
version, and I never know if it works on other platform.

I am using and considering psi as a calculator. I want to
keep it fast and simple. It *understands* my keyboard and
my language, French (and probably all Western European
languages).

I am also considering psi as a good tool to learn
Python; that's why I find the exe version interesting.

Having said this, psi is not perfect. It has its own
bugs (not to much I hope), it also suffers from
wxWidgets/wxPython issues.

Thanks again.

Hi Jean-Michel,

This might interest you:
To emulate other keyboards you might use the MS On-Screen Keyboard (it exists on MS Windows 2000 and XP, don't know if it is on 98), access it from Start/All Programs/Accessories/Accessibility/On-Screen Keyboard.

On my XP machine I have configured multiple keyboard layouts through Text Settings and Input Languages and then show the Language Bar in the Task Bar. Normally I run my French Keyboard with the English Language/Keyboard selected (English UK - that is to me the easiest), but I can switch it on the fly to e.g. English US or French (France) or German (Germany) etc. If you don't know or remember they particular layout you can then use the On-Screen Keyboard.

Often this is too long so I use the Alt+nnnn trick which I think you know already.

See you
Werner
