I'm not sure if you're talking about performance, but I can offer a comment on this. I tried out Ubuntu under VMWare last night, and it did seem very slow, compared to the Knoppix installation I've had installed on the same machine. I don't think it's Ubuntu, but the cost of running through the virtual machine. When I get the time, I think I'll set up a dual boot installation, so I can use Ubuntu at "full speed".
