size, this is not the case for Type1 fonts.
TeX is able to use different fonts for different sizes, even with Type1, TrueType, OpenType...
And you get different and right design sizes only if someone designed them and if you don't scale your document. There aren't too many MF fonts with a lot of design sizes out there. You could do the same also with PS MultipleMaster fonts.
Most MF fonts are converted to PS or TT nowadays anyway. (I know, there are quality issues, but esp. the Polish font gurus did a marvellous job!)
*I* don't want any bitmap fonts in my PS/PDF!
But perhaps we should transfer this thread to a TeX or typography related ML...
