Getting started with FloatCanvas

Having read up about FloatCanvas on this list and by googling, I think it will serve nicely in an application I am working on.

What’s the best way to get started with learning about it? I am working from several of the smaller demos at here, though I haven’t found where the main demo is yet. Also, am I right in thinking there is no doc/ howto as such?

Would it be useful to the community if, once I’ve learned how to use it, I write up a howto? Where should I post it for best effect?

Be sure to look at the sample in the main wxPython demo too.

Of course.

Where should I post it for best effect?

http://wiki.wxpython.org/ would be a good place to start.

Hi,

sorry, I've been busy and not monitoring this list as much as I usually do...

What's the best way to get started with learning about it? I am working
from several of the smaller demos at here
<http://svn.wxwidgets.org/viewvc/wx/wxPython/3rdParty/FloatCanvas/Demos/>,

though I haven't found where the main demo is yet.

It's included with the wxPython demo, but also here:

http://svn.wxwidgets.org/viewvc/wx/wxPython/3rdParty/FloatCanvas/FloatCanvasDemo.py?view=markup

Also, am I right in
thinking there is no doc/ howto as such?

I'm afraid not -- I've wanted to write one for years, but have never
found the time. Looking over those demos is probably your best bet:

There is a tiny bit on the FloatCanvas Wiki here:

http://trac.paulmcnett.com/floatcanvas

and you can browse the mailing list as well:

http://mail.paulmcnett.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/floatcanvas

And, of course, asking questions on that list is a good way to go.

Would it be useful to the community if, once I've learned how to use it,
I write up a howto?

Of course.

http://wiki.wxpython.org/ would be a good place to start.

Either that or the FloatCanvas TRAC wiki (see above). Though given
that the TRAC page really doesn't have all that much, it may make more
sense to put it all in the wxPython Wiki.

If you point me to anything you've written, I'll make a point of reviewing it.
