I hope this might provoke an productive discussion with a happy end...
I think that in this NG almost always there is a happy end 
The Python wiki (PythonEditors - Python Wiki) boasts a
nice list of editors of which quite some are developed with wxPython:
When I first started to use Python/wxPython (back in 2004), I was somewhat
suprised to find, in the Python editor wiki pages, sooooo many editors/IDE.
Ok, they are (almost always) free of charge, but I wondered for which
reasons so many developers reinvented the wheel...
While I don't have a particular preference over any editor (and I have
tried 5 or 6 of them), and while I don't have any request/feature/wish list
for a new one, I must admit that Stani's intentions are very good. Minimal
core + plugins + user=developer is an excellent combination.
I was not an IDE developer, so I probably don't know which kind of problems
may arise in building such a thing: however, every day I see how many
wxPython gurus this list owns and how fast is the support from Robin and
the most experienced users. Joining the efforts can often be a dream, but I
don't think we would need a particular miracle to unite our
minds/skills/preferences and to build this Integrated Dreaming Environment
(ops, sorry, Integrated Development Environment) :-)))
So, if the OP (Stani) and other IDE developers are able to start something
on the lines described by Stani, I would be happy to join the project and
to put my non-guru efforts on this development.
