I'd like to create a particularly unholy union between my wxPython tool
and an off-the-shelf 3D package (Autodesk 3ds Max).
Max has a Material Editor dialog. You can drag and drop these materials
to/from that dialog within Max. What I'd like to do is drag and drop
to/from the Material Editor and my wxPython tool. Ideally, there would
be a list of material names in my tool, and dragging one to the Max
dialog would tell Max (via Python or MaxScript) to create that material
at the dropped location, etc.
The question: Is it possible to do this with DND?
The DND materials in Max are a custom type of course, not just your
standard windows bitmaps, etc. Is it possible to 1) inspect the DND
type used by Max, and 2) create a custom drop object type in wxPython
that Max will accept?
I've been googling this for awhile and I'm expecting a big fat "no", but
thought I'd ask the experts first.
Thanks!
