Noticing that comboCtrls look different on Win7 depending on whether you use wx2.8.x or 2.9+.
This is the old appearance, with 2.8.11. The button is shaded grey with an arrow:
And this is the new appearance, with 2.9+. The button is just the arrow:
(Ignore the side the button is on…that is switchable).
Is one of these the “more native” for Win7? I myself prefer the shaded button because there is significantly more for the eye to catch without it being too much. Also, a defined boundary to suggest a space other than the text entry space is useful to help the user understand that it is a target to be clicked on.
There is a way to get an arbitrary button with this control, but what irks me is that there is a gap between the text entry and the button, as shown here (in this case, with “…” to mean file selection):
That gap, and the fact that the button appears to be 1-2 pixels not as high as the text box, seems a little off.
Maybe these are overly picky points, but enough little stuff matters to the look and feel and so I just thought I’d bring it up.
Thanks.
