How do you set the background color on menubars and status bars. I've
tried a bunch of things that don't work. The closest I've come is being
able to set the background color on a status bar, but of course what I
really want is to set the background color on the fields in it.
There's gotta be a way, eh? Right now my interface looks pretty nice
except for the ugly grey bars at top and bottom -- just like the ugly grey
top and bottom of this disgusting Lotus Notes window I'm typing into.

I don't think menubars can be changed, they always use the system colours.
I've
tried a bunch of things that don't work. The closest I've come is being
able to set the background color on a status bar, but of course what I
really want is to set the background color on the fields in it.
You can create your own class to use in place of the status bar. You'll just have to manage it's size and placement with a sizer or something.

You can always change your system colours, just go muck around in Control Panel --> Display Settings.
