Build instructions? Pitfalls?

Hi,

I would like to use wxPython with the wxWidgets 3.0.1 library because of the bugfixes present. Would installing wxWidgets into Windows prior to use be enough, or would it be necessary to recompile wxPython?

Is there a version of wxPython containing only the wrapper python classes, without the wxWidget binaries? If not, would placing the new wxWidgets library inside the source directory suffice? Are there any known pitfalls?

Thanks!
Colin

As a humble python programmer, I have no answers for you. But, I would
suggest that you are more likely to reach people who could answer your
question by asking it on the wxPython-dev list. Robin Dunn, the genius
behind wxPython, is too busy these days to read and reply on this list, but
I think he is still reading the dev list.

If you just want to install wxPython 3.0.1 here are binaries:
http://wxpython.kosoftworks.com/preview/20140707/

I don’t know about compiling though… I’m using those binaries now and they solved a crash for me. I’ve recently committed patches to UltimateListCtrl and HyperTreeList, but I don’t think they’ve been integrated yet, in case you were looking for those.

I will be back from holidays in a couple of days and I’ll review and apply your patches to the AGW widgets.

Hi Andrea,

Not sure if you noticed, but there is a patch I submitted for your Peak Meter that finishes the falloff effect for the horizontal view and adds another peak meter view.

Hey Colin,

I am unsure with Windows, but on my Linux machine I was able to replace the wxWidgets 3.0.0 binaries with the 3.0.1 versions and use them without recompiling wxPython. I did retain back up copies of everything just in case something went horribly wrong or I found any issues, but so far everything is going ok. As always, your mileage may vary.
