(I mentioned this at the end of my previous email, but it was buried at
the end of my Solaris compile story.)
I get this assertion error running wxPython on Solaris. Obviously from
the message I know where it came from, but if anybody knows the history
or a fix, please let me know.

This may be because you uninstalled the sunfreeware gtk-2.2.4 package, and so it ends up using the sunfreeware glib but the sun gtk lib and there is a mismatch.
