Anyone want to share Windows 7 wxPython screenshots?

My app looks horrible on Windows 7, does anyone have an app that looks
halfway decent that they want to share the screenshot of? I'm going
to have get rid of my attempts to theme my own app and go with windows
standard, but I'll need to redesign my app on windows 7 because it
looks absolutely horrible.

My app looks horrible on Windows 7…it looks absolutely horrible.

I’d like to see a screenshot of it, if you don’t mind. Could you attach one to the list?

I was hoping to see some people post some good looking apps on windows
7  I'll post some shots later. I'm flipping through the wxPython
demo and everything looks like garbage to me. Even a lot of websites
look terrible against these transparent background and borders. Yet
I've been googling for an hour and can't find a site where people
discuss modifying your color schemes for Windows 7. I'm working on my
website right now to get a better color scheme before I get back to
playing around with the look of the app.

I mean the scrollbar and buttons change from gray to blue. Am I just
being anal or does that not mess with your colors if you don't have a
simple white background.

Looks like microsoft modify most of their apps to look more like web
pages with white backgrounds and shaded sidebars.. Maybe a stronger
border between the Aero theme and your app helps.

Dear Mark,

I dont have much apps to send screen shots, just 2 pics.

p.s. I deliberately blurred one image because of security.

I am not sure if it is decent but it looks like a Windows app. My wife always tells me that it doesn't look sexy enough, i.e. to business like. Played with backgrounds at some point but did not get anywhere with it.

BTW, the app use wx.lib.agw.aui, so the panes can be moved/configured by the user and multiple layouts/perspectives can be saved.

Maybe a gallery type page for wxPython apps would be an idea? Could this be done within the wiki, i.e. show thumbnails and when clicking enlarge it.

Hi Werner!

I found it not so bad. Just the icons are a bit "ugly". I switched
completly to crytsal icons (Wikimedia Commons
Crystal_Clear) and I use only Andreas AUI stuff (thanks to Andrea!). I
think (as a woman  in this combination my programs look quite
pretty...

Here are two examples, hope that helps!

Hi,

Hi Werner!

I found it not so bad. Just the icons are a bit "ugly".

Thanks, most of them are "home made" obvious that I am not a graphics designer.

  I switched
completly to crytsal icons (Wikimedia Commons

They look very good.

and I use only Andreas AUI stuff (thanks to Andrea!).

Don't know what we would do without Andrea and Robin and ............

I know how difficult it is to make own icons, my last one was a

Axialis IconWorkshop was not so bad and "only" 35 Euro)? I made the
experience that people first see the colorful icons, if they are cool
looking, they like also the rest. The problem is, if the program do

not so good, badly maintained, old...We are too much spoiled from

You can see Whyteboard here:

Looks odd, not like a 'true' Windows app (toolbar icons are
weird...hmm, toolbar itself seems the wrong colour, it should be blue
too)

Using images in the wiki is doable, I'm not sure if it has support for the thumbnails idea though.

You do know that you can turn off the Aero glass effects, right? It's possible to keep all the other features but just turn off the transparency if that is what you don't like.

A separate wiki page for each full image and one or more pages of
thumbnails - Unless some scripts are enabled on the server the user
would need to upload both the new page, (or fill in a template), upload
both the full image and the thumbnail and then edit the thumbnail page
to add the thumbnail and link it to the new page.

Just my 2p worth.

If the current Wiki supports the [Image()] function then it will automagically create the thumbnail and link it to the original image, if I understood it correctly. I’m willing to put the Wiki page together if you all could send me your screenshots and if the Wiki supports that feature.

Andrea.
